Biography
Henry Scudder was an English Puritan minister educated at Christ's College, Cambridge. He served as minister at Drayton in Oxfordshire and from 1633 at Collingbourne Ducis in Wiltshire, and in 1643 he was called to the Westminster Assembly of Divines. His best-known book, The Christian's Daily Walk in Holy Security and Peace, first appeared in the 1620s with an epistle by John Davenport dated 1627; it went through many editions, and later printings carried commendations by John Owen and Richard Baxter. He also prepared The Godly Man's Choice (1644) for the press. Its first discourse, on choosing a spouse, was the work of Caleb Grantham, a devout young man who died shortly after his own marriage; Scudder added directions for married life and published the two together.
